Full Moon at White Sands National Monument, New Mexico
White Sands National Monument is situated at an elevation of 4,235 feet in the mountain-ringed Tularosa Basin. The white sand dunes are composed of gypsum crystals. This dune field is the largest of its kind on earth. Because the dune field is made of gypsum, it does not readily convert the sun's energy into heat and thus can be walked on in the summer with bare feet. Full Moon Nights at the Monument let you enjoy the radiance of the dunes beneath a full moon and encourage photographers to enjoy this very special opportunity.
