Summer thunderstorms add beauty to many views of the Canyon. The Canyon and adjacent rim are contained in Grand Canyon National Park. It is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over one mile. The Canyon is the result of erosion which exposes one of the most complete geologic columns on the planet.
